Throughout their time at The Corbet School, your child will be part of many school events; they will have the opportunity to attend careers-focused trips and activities. The academic year 2025-2026 already has lots planned, including: a taster day at local post-16 providers, attendance at a hospital healthcare conference, visiting speakers from the world of work, alumni advice sessions, CV-writing tutorials from our Enterprise Advisor, visits to local businesses for teambuilding events and presentations from motivational sportspeople.
All students take part in timetabled PSHEE and Life Skills lessons where there is a thematic approach to careers education. This learning is supplemented by activities during registration, themed assemblies and organised events.
Careers education and guidance is seen as a continuing process, beginning with aspects of self-awareness and self-assessment in KS3. This is further enhanced by using the Unifrog destinations platform to determine possible career routes, linking support agencies and making careers education accessible at home.
At KS4, your child will attend a one-to-one careers appointment with our independent careers advisor (E. Linney) who will support, encourage and advise your son/daughter to be ambitious in their aspirations.
If you would like to arrange a session for your child to meet with a member of the careers team, please email careers@corbetschool.net with your request. One of the team will then be in touch with you to discuss how best we can work together to support your son/daughter.
In Year 10, all students take part in a week-long work experience placement. Although we encourage all students to plan and arrange this independently, the careers team here at The Corbet School are always available to assist where necessary. Once a work experience placement is secured, the details of the employer should be logged onto Unifrog. This video outlines how the placement should be logged: https://cdn.unifrog.org/video/hfxcu5f6a6/480.mp4
During Year 11, there is a focus on ensuring that our students are given excellent advice, information and guidance on post-16 choices. In September of each academic year, local school sixth forms and colleges are invited into school to give presentations to the whole year group. Alongside presentations about academic courses, the Careers Lead also delivers practical guidance on applying for apprenticeships, to the whole Year 11 cohort. Assistance with applications is also available to all students, during weekly lunchtime sessions with Mrs Squire.
Our commitment to careers education is evaluated externally, throughout the academic year, using the nationally recognised standards of the Gatsby Benchmarks. In addition to this, our Careers Programme is reviewed, with support from the Marches Careers Hub, to ensure our students’ needs are met. Feedback is sought from our students on numerous occasions, and we would welcome any suggestions you may have as to how we can improve our careers education. Please feel free to contact us on careers@corbetschool.net.
