The school library is open from 8.00am until 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, and 8.00am until 4.00pm on Friday.
The library provides a safe haven for pupils before school, at break time and lunch time, and after school.
We encourage pupils to use the library to carry out research, read books, revise or to complete homework.
Rules:
We are a busy library (maximum occupancy 50) providing a save haven for pupils before school, break and lunchtime; we encourage pupils to whisper as not to distract those who are reading, revising or completing homework.
No food or drink is allowed in the library.
Books:
We have a wide range of books located in our Reference, Non Fiction and Fiction Sections. Factual books are shelved in numerical order (following the Dewey Decimal System) and novel can be found by searching for the author (alphabetical order by author surname).
WE want pupils to enjoy reading; please ask for book recommendations. Equally, if you are enjoying reading a book not borrowed from our library, we want to know about it.
Books are recorded on our Eclipse Library database and each pupil has their own account.
Loans, a recap:
Books are available for loan for an initial period of 3 weeks. Pupils needing longer to read may renew their books for a further 3 weeks. We charge fines (5p per day) for overdue books (this excludes weekends, holidays, school trips and authorised absence).
Library books can be returned through the letterbox under our Library noticeboard (next door to Student Support services).
Lunchtime Clubs:
Several library activities and clubs take place on a weekly basis, which pupils are encouraged to become involved in if they are interested.
- Librarian Training (Years 7 to 11) – Wednesdays
- Debating – Thursdays (once a month)
- Group Reading – Fridays
Bring on The Books (B.O.T.B) Library Newsletter:
At the beginning of 2020, Mrs. Brett and our Librarian Team began working on a new magazine, ‘Bring On The Books’. If you need book ideas, please look at our past issues which contain book reviews and recommendations. We continued to stock our Library with new titles during Lockdown and look forward to sharing these with pupils and of course, we always welcome recommendations. To contribute to our next edition (articles, photographs, artwork), please email jackie.brett@corbetschool.net
