Friday 21st December: the school day will finish at 1.30pm for the Christmas holidays. Those pupils who usually travel on school transport will be collected at 1.30pm. We would kindly ask other parents and pupils to make necessary arrangements to be collected at 1.30pm. There will be no transport provision at the normal finish time of 3.20pm. Please note that there will be no lunchtime canteen service on this day, although there will be the usual morning break service. Pupils entitled to free school meals will be able to use their provision at morning break.
This notice is to inform you that on 14th September 2018 we became aware of a ‘data theft’ that happened in school in May / June time earlier this year.
A pupil gained unauthorised access to the school computer records and copied school files some of which contained information on pupils.
The theft has been reported to the Police and an investigation is underway.
The incident has also been reported to the Information Commissioners Office, which acts as the Data Protection regulator under the General Data Protection Regulations.
The school has conducted a thorough investigation and has contracted a firm of IT Consultants to conduct a full review of the School IT Security. Some improvements have been implemented immediately and further steps have been taken as recommended in the review.
In accordance with GDPR regulations we will notify pupils directly where we suspect that their personal data may have been accessed as part of the theft. In total we have written to approximately 300 pupils.
The Corbet School takes ‘Data Theft’ very seriously and will continue to enhance our procedures to ensure that our pupils and their data are protected.
We sincerely apologise for any distress caused and should you have any questions you are welcome to contact Keith Rendell, Data Protection Officer, by e mail at [email protected] or by telephone on his direct line 01939 262001.

Parent Governor Elections
I am writing to encourage you to consider joining the school’s Governing Body as a Parent Governor. We are looking for parents/carers to join us in the Governing Body to help the school move forward. As a Governor you can assist in the vital role of supervising what happens in school, overseeing the development of new initiatives and having a part in effecting change if necessary. It is a chance to help guide the school as it strives to maintain and improve upon existing standards, as a link between Parents/Carers and Governors in this time of rapid and significant educational changes.
Governors meet on Mondays at 4pm. There is an expectation that you will be willing to join various sub committees where the real work of school governors happens. The full Governing Body meets twice termly, as do committees.
Do come and join us. Your role is very important to the school and I urge you to consider nominating yourself as a new Parent Governor.
If you would like to ask an existing Parent Governor about their experiences please feel free to contact:-
Mrs Nicola Hopwood-Clarke [email protected]
Miss Shelly Hurdley [email protected]
Ms Sarah Appleby [email protected]
Mr Matt Sturgess [email protected]
Please visit the governors’ section on the Corbet Website www.corbetschool.net for further information or
you may wish to contact the clerk to the governors, Mrs Jane Davies [email protected]
Please find attached notice, regulations and nomination form overleaf for return by midday, Friday 16th

The Science Laboratory refurbishment project is well under way and phase one is almost complete.
Two of the rooms are now being prepared for occupation and should be available for use on Monday 15th October, which is two weeks ahead of schedule.
Work on the third laboratory will start at half term and plans are for completion by the end of November.
We look forward to our pupils achieving great things in this fantastic environment.
