This notice is to inform you that on 14th September 2018 we became aware of a ‘data theft’ that happened in school in May / June time earlier this year.
A pupil gained unauthorised access to the school computer records and copied school files some of which contained information on pupils.
The theft has been reported to the Police and an investigation is underway.
The incident has also been reported to the Information Commissioners Office, which acts as the Data Protection regulator under the General Data Protection Regulations.
The school has conducted a thorough investigation and has contracted a firm of IT Consultants to conduct a full review of the School IT Security. Some improvements have been implemented immediately and further steps have been taken as recommended in the review.
In accordance with GDPR regulations we will notify pupils directly where we suspect that their personal data may have been accessed as part of the theft. In total we have written to approximately 300 pupils.
The Corbet School takes ‘Data Theft’ very seriously and will continue to enhance our procedures to ensure that our pupils and their data are protected.
We sincerely apologise for any distress caused and should you have any questions you are welcome to contact Keith Rendell, Data Protection Officer, by e mail at rendell.k@corbet.shropshire.sch.uk or by telephone on his direct line 01939 262001.
