Dear Parent/Carer
It is with sadness that Buckingham Palace announced that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had peacefully passed away at her royal residence, Balmoral in Scotland.
We share in that sadness for the loss of a mother, grandmother, a constant in an ever-changing world and a corner stone of our society.
An inspirational woman, The Queen embodies so many traits that we valued, admired, and respected. A life of selflessness and dedication to others.
We join together with the nation, the commonwealth, and the wider world in mourning for the loss of this extraordinary monarch. The longest reigning British monarch in history and the longest reigning female monarch that any nation has seen during the entire course of history.
Tutors shared the following news article with their tutor groups on Friday (https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/news/watch_newsround), which allowed a few moments of communal contemplation, celebration and commemoration to reflect on Her Majesty’s extraordinary reign.
If children and young people are upset, Minded is a source of information to support children and young people to manage death and loss. Alternatively, please do contact your child’s tutor or Student Support studentsupport@corbetschool.net
The Corbet School will be recognising the Bank Holiday on Monday 19th September 2022 and will close to allow you and your families to observe the funeral or commemorate the passing of Her Majesty The Queen in your own way. I hope that the day will provide the opportunity to celebrate the life and service of Her Majesty but likewise to mark the dawning of a new era with our new monarch, His Majesty King Charles III.
Yours sincerely
Dr Jane Tinker
