Good afternoon,
I hope that you are all doing well and have managed through another unusual week. I thought I would just send a very brief update to let you know how things are going and to update you on a couple of changes for next week. Attendance on Zoom has been excellent, and I am so proud of the pupils and staff for really embracing this and trying to give as close an experience of school life as possible, just not in our building. Over the coming weeks I am going to send out some surveys; we will start by surveying pupils next week to look at how remote learning is going and how we might use their responses to shape things going forward. At the moment we are a little worried that they might be having a lot of work to complete on top of their Zoom lessons and want to make sure that we are getting the balance right. It is so important that they are able to have some time outside in the daylight and spend time doing things they enjoy away from a screen. We will also be surveying parents, possibly the week after. I will share with you the results of these surveys so that you can see how we are using this to shape remote learning going forward to ensure the very best experience for all.
Year 11 careers appointments have resumed this week via telephone consultations. An email has been sent to all parents of pupils who have not yet received a careers appointment. If your child has not yet had a consultation with Emma Linney, Careers Adviser, and would like to take up the offer of a telephone consultation, please email Nicola Smith (Nicola.smith4@corbetschool.net). Pupils are also encouraged to contact Mrs Smith if they need help with college applications. We have received information from Shrewsbury Colleges Group that correspondence will be sent to pupils who have applied for A-Levels next week, therefore can pupils be reminded to check their emails regularly.
Tutor time will take place on a Wednesday morning only, as part of Wellbeing Wednesday activities, any pupils who wish to contact their tutors if they have any worries or would like a chat can contact them on Satchel:One and we can stay in touch that way. If your child would like an appointment with a member of the Student Support Team, please ask them to email pastoral@corbetschool.net. Please remember to let us know if your child cannot attend their Zoom lessons because they are unwell or have a medical appointment as we are monitoring attendance and sending text messages to parents to let them know their child has not attended. Your support in this is much appreciated.
Staff are now being tested weekly, on a voluntary basis, using the lateral flow tests and so our testing protocols are in place should we need to use these going forward. At the moment, mass testing is still planned before the pupils return to school and I will update you on this as I know more. We would like to offer tests to the pupils we have on site during next week, please be reassured that this can only happen with pupil and parental consent and if your son/daughter can administer the test themselves. Consent letters will be coming out to those pupils during next week and please get in touch if you have any questions.
We will continue to check, on a weekly basis, with parents who would like a critical worker place, this is to ensure that we only have on site those pupils that we absolutely must have here. I know that parents are supporting us with this and only sending their child to school when they cannot stay at home. This will help us all to reduce the number of contacts we have with others and hopefully the spread of the virus so that we can all return to normal as quickly as possible.
The phone lines have been a little quieter this week with less ICT support needed, I hope this is a good sign that you are all feeling much happier and settled into the new routines at home. A huge thank you to those parents and members of the wider community who have donated laptops, these have already been sent out to pupils at home and are helping them engage in remote learning. Your support and generosity is very much appreciated by us all.
As always, please do get in touch if we can help you in any way and very best wishes to you and your families,
Dr Jane Tinker,
Headteacher
