The school site is closed today due to adverse weather conditions and onsite safety.

Dear Parent / Carer,
Please be prepared for a possible school closure tomorrow, Monday 25th January 2021, due to the risk of icy and dangerous roads first thing in the morning. A decision will be made by 6.30am once an assessment has been made of the roads, school site and staff availability. A text and email will be sent and the school website updated shortly after 6.30am tomorrow.

Whole School Letter – Friday 8th January 2021
Dear parents, carers, staff and governors,
I thought a very brief update might be useful to you today. Can I firstly start by saying a huge thank you for your support. I am exceptionally proud of our remote learning and in school provision and hope that everybody is still feeling very connected and very much a part of our community. The Zoom lessons have gone well this week and attendance has been excellent, it is very important that our pupils maintain their excellent attendance and attitudes. As you know from previous communication, we are monitoring this and will let you know if lessons are being missed by text or phone call. We are going to build in a couple of tutor time sessions going forward on a Monday and Wednesday so please make sure that your child is joining their tutor for a check in and to complete Wellbeing Wednesday activities.
A reminder that we have also gone back to only having one break and lunchtime with break between 11.10 – 11.30am and lunchtime 1.30 – 2.15pm, this has changed the start time of some lessons, as previously communicated and in the planner. This is also working very well in school and we have introduced today, hot chocolate or tea and a snack at breaktime for the pupils that are with us in school which they all seemed to enjoy and it helped them warm up a bit.
I would also like to say thank you to all the staff who have been on hand to offer ICT support so that we can keep things going and please do keep phoning in with your questions – we are here to help us all to get through what I hope will be a short phase in Lockdown 3.0. Thank you so much for all of your positive comments, they do mean a lot to us in school and help us to keep going. I can promise you that we really are doing our very best and know that you all are at home too.
Year 11 parents and pupils will receive a further communication today with details about mock exams and the cancellation of the summer exams. We are also going to attempt our first Zoom assembly with Year 11 so that we can talk them through all of these issues.
Please do let us know if there is anything further you think that we can do to help.
With very best wishes to all of our Corbet School community,
Dr Jane Tinker

Parents who are Critical Workers – Week beginning Monday 11th January 2021
Dear Parent / Carer
In order for us to plan for week beginning Monday 11th January 2021 we need to know how many children of Critical Workers need a place in school. If you consider that you are a critical worker and you cannot safely care for your child at home please email: criticalworker@corbetschool.net with the following information:
Your name, your employer and your job title
Your child’s name and tutor group
Days of week place is required
Please do not send your child to school unless you receive email confirmation that we are expecting them – all requests must be emailed to the address above by 12.30pm on Friday 8th January, 2021. Parents will be contacted via email on Friday afternoon to confirm their child can attend school.
If your child has attended school this week because they fall into the vulnerable category, you do not need to contact us.
Ofqual announcement – 06.01.21
National Lockdown & Stay at Home Order, 05.01.2021
Dear parent / carer,
I thought that I would provide you with a very quick update today following the announcement last night of a national lockdown and a stay at home order. The indication is that schools will stay closed for most pupils until February half term.
Firstly, we will update Year 11 and their parents as we know more about what may happen to the exams in the summer and about mock exams too. I know that Mr Simms and Mr Hartshorn will be in touch this week about tutoring and all Year 11 pupils must be logging into their Satchel:One account by 8.45am each day to enable them to access their work and the links to their Zoom lessons.
As stated in my last letter we will be running Zoom lessons as timetabled to enable face-to-face support for all pupils and I have just checked lesson monitor and so far attendance has been excellent. Please keep up this excellent work and please feel free to phone school if you are experiencing any ICT difficulties and we will do our best to help. The timetable will be reviewed over the next few days as I would like to build in some time for our pupils with their tutors and some wellbeing drop in sessions too. It might be that we make some minor changes to lesson start times as we no longer need a split lunch arrangement in school but I will confirm the detail once it has been finalised.
A reminder that school is now only open to the following groups of pupils:
During the period of national lockdown, schools and colleges should only allow vulnerable children and the children of critical workers to attend. Children with at least one parent or carer who is listed as a critical worker are eligible for a school place.
I would ask that any pupil who can stay safely at home does so in line with the stay at home guidance issued on Monday evening.
I will update you as and when I know more and I thank you for your patience and support.
With best wishes to you and your families,
Jane Tinker
